The Motor

hello non collector here but have stumbled upon a stash of 300+ odd magazines. reasonable condition I haven't sorted or counted them but appears to be almost an entire collection from 1946 to 1952. would this be of interest to collectors? thanks sandra

Hi Sandra
That is quite a find. I am the librarian at The Australian Motorlife Museum and would appreciate adding those to our collection to fill in some gaps that we have but the cost of freight for such a large stash would be too great.
Thanks for not just putting them in the re-cycling bin.

Hi Sandra, The problem with a stash like this is the space to store them. Many people are downsizing their housing to places like apartments and age care and just don't have the space for them. When they find that they can't sell them, they usually end up in landfill, which is unfortunate.

Hi Sandra.

If you want to sell them as a single lot, then you could advertise them on Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace and see how you go. The cost of freight for 300 issues would probably be prohibitive, so your best bet would be to try and sell locally. I don't personally have any idea on the value of The Motor.

Otherwise, if you have the time and energy, you could list individual issues on eBay and post them to buyers. This would likely get you the most money, but might take a long time. Looking at past sales for The Motor, you might be able to ask $5 to $15 per issue.

Hope that helps.

thank you yes I ve already had a good offer via another site. Because there are complete years of collections and the manufacturers manuals of some cars from 1930s to 50s m actually astounded at price. today I located the plans for the oil refinery at Geelong as well as well as other historical documents regarding motoring in Australia. it's quite an interesting find and reading.
