Looking for an article possibly in a 1970 issue of Modern Motor

Does anyone have any 1970 issues of Modern Motor that could look for an article for me?

In mid-1970 Citroen did some sort of cross-country record attempt involving 3 DS 21's which all set off from Perth with one going to Brisbane, one to Sydney and one to Melbourne. This was some sort of promotion for the 1970 Ampol Trial and these cars were used in that too. David McKay drove one of the cars and wrote for Modern Motor so may have written about it in the magazine. He also wrote for the Daily Telegraph so may have written about it there but that is harder to track down.

Was the record attempt pre or post the 1970 Ampol Trial as this will narrow the search?

We have nearly all of Modern Motor at the museum and I can have a look for you on Thursday.

Hi Brian.

It was before the trial as the cars that were used were the ones that were going to be used in the trial. Apparently the cars were shipped from France to Perth and they departed from there. The trial was in late June and the only information I have says this took place in mid-1970. Maybe there might be something in the March, April, May, June, July or August issue about it, possibly only a short mention in a column probably by David McKay or something in relation to the trial itself.

I have checked all issues of Modern Motor in 1969, 1970 and 1971 and could not find the article. The only articles by David McKay were on motor racing particularly Bathurst.

In David McKay's 2001 autobiography "Scuderia Veloce", there is a page and a half about the Citroen dash across Australia.
