La Vie Automobile appeared since 1903. The site of the Digital Conservatory of Arts and Crafts ( CNUM) tells us that in 1901, Gaston Sencier (1853-1929), engineer from the Ecole Centrale, and Louis Baudry de Saunier (1865-1938), journalist and automobile columnist, launched a new periodical entitled La Locomotion. Dedicated to techniques affecting the automobile, cycling, trams, ballooning and even yachting, this periodical is a direct competitor of La Locomotion Automobile, magazine of the Touring-Club de France. Monthly in its infancy, the magazine quickly became weekly and changed title in 1903 to be called La Vie automobile. The magazine promotes the development of the automobile in France as well as the extension and improvement of the road network. It relays the actions of the Automobile Club de France, the Touring-Club de France and the organizers of the many events which, throughout the country, argue in favor of the car. Automobile Life covers many aspects. Some, technical, concern the engine, the braking, the construction or the maintenance of the chassis and the various parts of the car; others are more dedicated to motorsport, to the performance of vehicles on the track or during races; others finally focus on the personality of engineers or technicians and on community life. Charles Faroux is director of the title from 1909. Louis Baudry de Saunier left the publication in the meantime to found the title Omnia. The last issue, 1506, was published in December 1956.
