Added description:
Car and Driver was published by William B. Ziff and his Ziff-Davis Publishing Company. It is a re-titling of Sports Car Illustrated. The publisher was Bradford Briggs and the editor was Karl E. Ludvigsen. Mr. Ludvigsen is credited with the name change to Car and Driver with the April 1964 issue. He wanted to shift the focus to a more general automotive magazine and not one just sports cars. This title is still published but has had several different business owners through the years. Ziff-Davis sold the title to CBS in 1984 after David E. Davis Jr. had returned as the magazine's editor-in-chief. CBS held the title for two to three years, then in January, 1988 it was briefly owned by Diamandis Communications. Within a few months it was acquired by Hachette Filapacchi Media U.S. Hachette owned it from April, 1988 until May, 2011, then Hearst Communications acquired it.
